How long should my driving lessons be?

Our standard driving lessons are 1 hour. We do this because we’ve listened to our customers, who all prefer a 1-hour lesson over 45 minutes. Statistically, an adult can only concentrate for a maximum of 45 minutes, and we see this in our students—sometimes, at the end of their lesson, they begin to miss gear changes, signals, and other basics because they start to get tired.

Instead of reducing the lesson time, we break up the session a bit more. We switch up the skills when we notice our students getting tired, or we pull over to discuss aspects of the driving test or road safety—giving them a short break from active driving.

What to practice when driving around Mirrabooka:

• Knowledge of right of way (vehicles and pedestrians)
• Stop signs
• Give way
• Uncontrolled intersections
• Traffic lights with and without filter arrows
• Parking (reverse, forward, parallel)
• One-way roads
• Recognising road signs and markings
• Merging lanes
• When to check blind spots
• Safe and legal places to stop
• Hill parking
• Safe and legal turnarounds
• Making safe decisions in traffic

All of these activities will be covered during a series of driving lessons in the Mirrabooka area. However, we recommend that learners drive as often as possible and practise these skills in the area where they plan to take their test. Practising with your parents or other supervisors outside of your lessons is highly encouraged.
